Shirley Anderson Simpson, 92, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on August 4, 2017. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, at 3:00 on August 12, 2017 at St. James Episcopal Church in Shelbyville, KY. She will be laid to rest in the church garden with her loving husband following the service.

Shirley is survived by her four children, Cindy (John) Velten of Louisville KY, Chris (Lisa) Simpson of Ashville, NC, Kerri Remmel of Simpsonville, KY, Carol (Lonnie) Dore’ of Broussard, LA; eight grandchildren, Trey (Kerry) Higgins, Mark (Linda) Higgins, Matt Simpson, Jeff Simpson, JB (Erin) Remmel, Chris Remmel, Ann (Joseph) Dore’ Lamia, Christine (Michael) Dore’ Miller; seven great grandchildren, Reagan, Jackson, McKinley, Hartley, Holden, CC, and Rosalee, her brother, William (Margaret) Anderson; and Godchild, Kari Moore.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sebring B. Simpson, her parents, Heartley “Hunk” Anderson and Marie Anderson, and her sister, JoAnn Willcox.

Shirley was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 14, 1924. She attended Denison University in Ohio and was a proud member of Tri-Delta sorority. She loved telling stories about her father playing and coaching football at Notre Dame University and the Chicago Bears. She also loved telling tales of her flying adventures with her husband in their SNJ airplane. She was an avid LSU football fan and was one of the original Bengal Belles in Baton Rouge, LA. She loved the celebration of Mardi Gras and was a charter member of two Krewes in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Everyone who knew Shirley, knew she was one of a kind and lived life to the fullest.
