Mary Lee Vina was born in Missouri to Lucinda (Beasley) and William James; she had at least one sibling, a sister Sarah Jane. She moved to Oklahoma prior to Oklahoma's admission to statehood. She then came to Fresno, California in 1930 where the family engaged in farming.
Living in the San Joaquin Valley for eleven years the family next moved to Napa County in 1941 and made their home in Yountville.
Vina married Ernest Riley and they had eight children Elmer, Nina, Lena, twins Leona and Leo (died before May 2009), Leslie, Isom (died before May 2009) and Luceal (died before May 2009). At the time of her death she had 39 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
A member of the Assembly of God Church. Casket bearers were Robert Croxen, Chub Barker, Dale McCutcheon, Dee Fowels, Richard Bagley, Jr., and Larry La Pieree.
