Son of Emily Chick (Grout) and Marcus L. Reed. Brother of William Livingston Reed. Husband of May H. (Weir), whom he married on 30 August 1899 in Portland, Maine. They made their home in Concord, Vermont. Their three children were Mrs. Alice Gertrude Smith, Ralph Franklin Reed, and Howard George Reed.
May preceded him in death in 1907, when their youngest child, Howard, was only about nine months old. Soon after May's death, baby Howard was brought to Cookshire, Compton, Quebec, Canada to be raised by his maternal aunt & uncle, Alice Catherine (Weir) Lebourveau and Alvin Moses Lebourveau.
At the time of his death, George had been employed as Road Commissioner of Concord, Vermont. After his death, the two oldest children went to live with George's brother & sister-in-law, William L. & Gertrude (Burroughs) Reed.
