Catherine A. Hopper, nee Swailes, former resident of Vermilion, OH and daughter of deceased parents Charles Swailes and Millie (Blair) Swailes of MI and loving wife of Herbert M. Hopper, expired March 19, 2013 at the age of 80 years.

She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and graduated from Sault High School in 1950. Catherine and her mother Millie Swailes, traveled to Belleville, IL where she married on November 20, 1950 in the Chapel by Captain Patterson, an Air Force Chaplin at Scott Air Force Base.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in the Soo where she had been very active on numerous committees for several years. She was a very active member in her Church in Lorain, OH as well serving on the United Methodist Women's Guild and other committees. She also was active in the public schools volunteering her time with teaching small children on computers.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, four loving children and their spouses: Lynda Quandt of Aurora, IL, Diana Heras of West Palm Beach, FL., Marcia (Bruno) Lequesne of Menomonee Falls, WI; Jerald (Cindy) Hopper of Westerville, OH. Catherine leaves behind seven grandchildren and their spouses: David (Melissa) Quandt, Akasa Berzins and Aaron Anderson, Felix Heras and Tina Menucci, Remy Lequesne and Lydia Schroeder, Eric Lequesne, Jillian (Brian) Blough, April Hopper and Tom Peters. She leaves behind seven surviving great grandchildren: Darian Sedillo, Madison, Megan, McKenzie Quandt, Iyla and Holden Blough, and Tyler Haines. Catherine had one sister, Theresa DenBeste of Marquette, MI. and was preceded in death by one brother, Charles E. Swailes of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

In spite of several physical problems that she endured for many years, Catherine shared the greater part of her life caring for her entire family and will be long remembered as a kind, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Catherine was loved by many, known by many and will be missed by many.

Catherine's cremated remains will be taken to Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Upper Michigan, where she will be laid to rest.
