"Maria Morquecho Menchaca, of Mason, passed away on Monday, December 4, at the age of 85.

Maria was born on February 1, 1932 in Fredericksburg to Estevan Morquecho and Ramona Towns Morquecho. In 1946 she married Alfredo Menchaca and they made their home in Mason. In Mason they were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Their marriage was blessed with 6 children.

Fishing was Maria’s passion. She was still talking about going fishing last week when she was in the hospital! Maria saw it as her job and her duty to care for her family even in these last years. When asked if her ailments hurt she would say “just a little bit”. She wanted to care for others; and, she did not want others to have to care for her. “She was “a tough old lady”! Maria enjoyed cooking crocheting and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren."
