MCSHERRYSTOWN - Doris Mae (Thomas) Wagner, 83, formerly of the Interfaith Village in McSherrystown, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, after losing her battle with cancer.
Family and friends may call at Kenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick St., Hanover, on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a one hour visitation before services begin at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Marburg Memorial Gardens.
Doris was born January 29, 1924, to John Bowman Thomas, Sr. and Lenna Iva (Sturms) Thomas at the home of her paternal grandparents, Dicen B. and Sallie P. (Bowman) Thomas in State College, Centre County.
As a young child, she resided with her mother and maternal grandparents, Homer O. and Henrietta (Phillips) Sturms in the Parsons, Tucker Co., area of West Virginia. She moved to the Hanover area with her family in 1930, attending the schools in the community of New Chester, and was a member of the class of 1943 at New Oxford High School.
On April 17, 1943, she married Christian W. Wagner, Sr. in Carroll Co., Md. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1984. They had celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; and a daughter, Barbara E. (Wagner) Redding.
Doris was an avid reader and loved country music. She enjoyed traveling and took special pleasure visiting with family and friends in West Virginia whenever possible. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 127 York St., Hanover, as well as a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion.
She is survived by six children, Patricia A. Sanders and husband, Joseph, and Gerald E. Wagner, all of McSherrystown, Christian W. Wagner, Jr. and wife, Norma, and Phillip D. Wagner and wife, Lynn, all of Hanover, Sandra L. Fields and husband, Farrell Ewens of Kansas City, Mo., and James M. Wagner and wife, Jane of Downingtown; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Bowman Thomas, Jr. of Santa Margarita, Calif.; and a half sister, Sally (Thomas) Pavetti of the New London, Conn., area.
