March 22, 1950 Times Record -- Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23, 1950 at 10 a.m. in Knox Chapel, Rock Island for Mrs. Edward M. Bateman, 80, former Mercer resident, who died at 7 p.m. Monday in St. Anthony's hospital.
Burial will be in Peniel cemetery near Joy, with Rev. S.W. Woodburn officiating.
Mrs. Bateman, the former Eliza C. Emons, was born in Mercer county near Joy on Sept. 8, 1869. She was reared and educated in Mercer county, later teaching school here for eight years. She was married to Mr. Bateman in 1899.
Mrs. Bateman was a member of the Joy Presbyterian church and formerly was affiliated with the Royal Neighbors of American and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are the widower; a son, Donald at home; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Manlove of Rock Island; two sisters, the Misses Bertha and Mattie Emons of Joy; three brothers William of Joy, Clair of Muscatine, Iowa, and Samuel of Missouri, and a grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son Ralph, in 1948.
