Mother of noted Canadian war ace dies
CARLETON PLACE, Dec. 13 —— Following a seizure on Monday, the death occurred late this afternoon at her home of Mary Flett, widow of J. Morton Brown, flour manufacturer, and mother of Captain Roy A. Brown, Canadian flier who brought down Baron Manfred von Richthofen, Red Knight of Germany, in the first Great War. The late Mrs. Brown had been active until her fatal seizure. She was 75 years old.

A native of Ramsay township, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Flett, and had lived in Carleton Place the greater part of her life. Her husband was a partner with his brother, the late Alexander Brown, in the flour milling business founded by their father the late Horace Brown.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Memorial Park United Church and was actively engaged in all women's departments. She was also a member of the Sunshine Y and the Red Cross.

Surviving are two sons, Captain Roy A. Brown, Toronto, and Howard, of the Department of Labor, Edmonton, formerly of Ottawa, and one daughter, Bessie, registered nurse, at home. One son, Horace, also a member of the Royal Air Force in the first Great War, died in England in 1919, and one daughter Margaret, registered nurse, was killed in an accident in the United States a few years ago.

The remains will rest at her late residence on Friday afternoon until the funeral on Saturday afternoon, when service will be held at two o'clock conducted by Rev. D. C. Munro. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
