After additional training in France the 27th Division entered the Lines in mid-July 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium and France.
He returned to the States with the 106th MG Battalion, from Brest, France, March 5, 1919, aboard the USS Missouri. The USS Missouri docked at Hoboken, NJ, March 18, 1919.
As a member of the 27th Division, he marched in the great "Welcome Home Parade", March 25, 1919, up 5th Avenue, in New York City. He was discharged from the service as a PFC, April 2, 1919.
