Ardis Virginia Aasen, 88, Minot, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 18, 2018, in a Minot hospital. Surrounded by her loving family, Ardis passed peacefully into her Heavenly home to reunite with her loved ones.

Ardis was born on January 6, 1930, in Harvey, ND to Pauline and Ferdinand Heizelman. She was raised and educated in Sawyer. As a young adult she was employed at various jobs in Minot.

On February 9, 1948, in Thief River Falls, MN, Ardis married Thomas I. Aasen, the love of her life, who always called her ‘Queenie’. Ardis often told the story of how they met at the local roller skating rink when she was 18 and he was 17. They had to borrow $100 to pay for their wedding and were very proud when they were able to pay this off within their first year of marriage. They made their home in Minot where she assisted her family in the operation of Aasen Sodding, Landscaping and Greenhouse and Apple Grove Golf Course, where Ardis was the Owner/Manager for many years. She considered patrons of Apple Grove to be her special friends and enjoyed visiting with them each day. Tom and Ardis also developed a condominium complex adjacent to the golf course. Tom died on February 8, 2002. Ardis continued to reside in Minot.

Ardis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in Nedrose P.T.A. when her children were in school. She especially enjoyed traveling, reading, flower gardening, and camping. Tom and Ardis had many friends with whom they played poker. Family gatherings usually included games of many types, a favorite was pinochle. Ardis’ many talents included embroidering dish towels (which she had the foresight to make for each of her grandchildren to be presented to them on their wedding day), making hand-stitched pictures for each of her children to display in their homes, and crocheting afghans for her family. Ardis was a wonderful cook and family gatherings were blessed with her many special dishes. Her cooking was also enjoyed by many golfers during tournaments and league nights.

Ardis’ loving family includes her Children: Paulette Aasen, Tom (Brenda) Aasen, Don Aasen (Shannon Conroy), Patty (Mike) Mosser, and Penny (Jim) Lunstad all of Minot and Pam (Ryan) Visina of Mesa AZ; Grandchildren: Lance (Shannon) Rascoe, Tiffany (Bob) Miller, Shelly (Ron) Carlson, Michael (Jaime) Aasen, Jerad Aasen, Ben Aasen, Amanda (Geraldo) Arceo, Chanda (Greg) Hoewt, Stephanie (Jeff) Kupser, Erica (Waylon) Getzlaff, Rachael (Kyle) Forsman, MacKenzie (Eric) Jones, Chelsey (Jordan) Mickelsen, Aaron Lunstad, Ciara Lunstad, Austin (Katelyn) Visina, Jordan Visina (Amber Moffatt), Sheldon (Jennifer) Anhorn, Travis (Shari) Anhorn, and Brock (Amber) Francis; Great Grandchildren: Peyton, Andes, Kailan, Killian, Kayla, Fallon, Madison, Genevieve, McKinnon, Jordan, Drake, Emery, Mateo, Ashlynn, Boston, Brailynn, Dayton, Denver, Callen, Creighton, Archer, Orin, Brynn, Braiden, Treyton, Cohen, and Jarik; Siblings: Ronald (Patricia) Heizelman of Velva; Gary (Gloria) Heizelman of Minot; Janice Knippelberg of Oak Harbor, WA; Judy (Melvin) Bachmeier of Minot; Sister-in-law Geri (Tom) Higgins of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
