Jim enlisted in Company A (Lavaca Guards) 6th Texas Volunteer Infantry, Garland's Regiment, CSA, on September 27, 1861. He was captured at the Battle of Arkansas Post on January 11, 1863 and sent to Camp Butler where he died at 23 years of age. He was from Lavaca County, Texas.
