Johnny Lavoid Follis, 91, of Corsicana, passed away on June 2, 2018, in Temple. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Johnny was born in the vanished community of Jester, Texas, to the late Jack Leslie Follis and Ola Gladys (Parker) Follis.

He served as 2nd Class Seaman in the U.S. Navy on the USS Guam during World War II from May 1944 to May 1946. He also served in the U.S. Naval reserves from May 1946 to May 1954 when he was honorably discharged from the Navy. He went into the School of Carpentry where he became a master cabinet builder.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a Christian man who loved God and his family. Lots of people knew him as "Shorty."

He was a friendly easy going man who never met a stranger. He could always be found in his shop tinkering or building wonderful things. He loved to fish and work in his garden. He loved to joke around, always had a cup of coffee in his hand and always telling everyone when he was hungry, he would say, "I haven’t eaten in four days."

He was preceded in death by his sister, Odessa Meador; and brothers, Bill and Albert Follis.

Survivors include his wife, Sonja Follis, of Corsicana; daughters, Tonya Crum and her husband, Brad, and Rebecca Follis, of Corsicana; son, John Lindsey Follis, of Houston; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and one special cousin, Doyle Parker.
