Elizabeth Ann (Stewart) Lewis was born about two months after her father, John Stewart, disappeared on a hunt with his brother-in-law Daniel Boone. His body was later discovered in a tree, after he likely bled to death from a Native American attack or animal attack.

They likely all came to Independence, Jackson County in 1822 before moving to Platte County after the 1830 Federal Census, where they were still in Jackson County).
