Richard Eldon Jones “Dickie”, 71, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at his home in Cotton, Georgia. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family, and has received the best of care from his primary caregiver, daughter Becky.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at Hinsonton Baptist Church with interment in Pinecrest Memory Gardens in Pelham.

Dickie was born on January 13, 1947 in Fort Lauderdale, and grew up in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He was the son of Alvin Belton and Mary Ella Glenn Jones, and the grandson of William Belton and Mellie Lea Butler Jones. He attended Abraham Baldwin and Valdosta State College, and met the love of his life Nancy while in school. He was a farmer and landscaper and upon retirement, he and Nancy moved to Cotton.

Dickie loved his family, his country home where he found much pleasure in maintaining his beautiful yard, his dog “Gin Gin” and his friends and many cousins. He was “Papa” to his beloved grandchildren. He also loved Hinsonton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Richard is survived by his wife of forty nine years, Nancy Claire Vickers Jones; daughter, Rebecca Claire Jones, Tifton; son Richard Alvin Jones (Tonya), Deerfield Beach; son, James Tripper Jones (Amanda), Jacksonville, Florida; sister Mary Kathryn Whiteside (Clarence), Madison, Georgia; brother Jeffrey Barton Jones (Bonnie), Melbourne, Florida; sister-in-law Alice Jones, Deerfield; grandchildren Benjamin Hardy and Mary Claire Hardy, Tifton; Stella Jones, Kenneth Jones, Alan Jones, Jacksonville; Grace Jones, Deerfield, and great grandson, Henry Waldrop, Tifton; and many nieces,nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Michael and Kenneth Jones.
