Joseph Glen Thomas son of Walter Newton Thomas and Nancy Sue Sanders Thomas was born April 27, 1926 in Oklahoma and departed this life May 18, 2000 at the age of 74 years 21 days. Glen was a resident of Sparta for the past 15 years moving there from Ava. Glen served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army and was a carpet layer before he retired. Glen was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: one son Bobbie Thomas, Sacramento, CA., one daughter; Carlissa Thomas, Sparta, four grandchildren Dakota Thomas, Dustin Thomas, Curtis Thomas, and Laura Mills, three great-grandchildren Jessica Lett, Cammy and Gabby Banke, one brother Dale Thomas, two sisters Laverne Allen, Nadine Whitman and a host of relatives and friends. Services were held Monday, May 22, 2000 at 10 a.m. at Clinkingbeard Chapel in Ava. Visitation was Sunday from 2 to 3 p,m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery near Ava. Funeral arrangements conducted by the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava.
