He was a son of Donald C. and Mavis LaFlair Getman, and a stepson of Joseph Szalkowski. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1968 and attended Canton ATC. He worked at AMF in Lowville for a short time prior to his marriage.
He married Mary Anna on 914/194 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boonville. He worked at Climax Manufacturing in Carthage from 1974 until his retirement in 2011.
He was a former long-time member of the Castorland Fire Department. He enjoyed camping, hunting, golfing, snowmobiling, and riding his motorcycle. He was also known for his playful sense of humor.
He was survived by his wife; four children, Edward (Hee Jin Kim), Lisa (Stephen) Powroznik, Daryl (Michelle) Maciuska, and Tricia (David) Norton; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald (Valerie) and George (Theresa).
