Charles Esbon Grant, age 78, of Hayden, Alabama passed away Monday, April 12, 2004. He was a member of Walker Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Grant was United States Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Charles attended Auburn University and The University of South Carolina, majoring in Business Administration. He owned and operated Charles Grant Tomato Company for over 35 years at The Farmers Market in Birmingham, Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Moses Grant, and daughter, Cydney Annette (Henry) Horn of Pinson, Alabama; son, Billy Don (Charlotte) Grant of Bonita Springs, Florida; sisters, Barbara (Wayne) Lawson of Thomasville, Georgia and Terri (Richard) Evans of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother, Seldon Grant of Fort Payne, Alabama; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Genia) Horn, Charlie Horn, Crystal Grant, Jessica Grant, Billy Don Grant, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Faith Horn and Joy Horn; several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ola Mae Armstrong and Reverend Charlie J. Grant and his beloved step-mother, Agnes Barkley Grant of Ft. Payne, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, Alabama with burial at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 14, 2004 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the chapel with the Reverend Mike Moses and Greg Bartley officiating. Ridout's Gardendale Chapel directing.
