He married, first, Adelaide (Addie) Gregory, before 1868. She passed away in 1883. He married, second, Rozeltha Arvilla Firman in 1883. Like his family for generations before him and after, L.D. was deeply involved in the First Baptist Church of Burlington on Burlington Green. He died on 30 Mar 1917 at Oneonta at the home of his son Washington Irving and was buried with his wives and family at Burlington Green Cemetery in Burlington.
