Richard Arlen “PeeWee” Russell, 88, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War Conflict. He then returned home to begin his career in the Textile industry at E.T. Barwick Mill. Throughout Richard’s career in the textile industry, he was plant manager, which led up to him and a friend co-founding Miracle Carpet Industry. After selling his part of the business, he retired with Scheen Carpet at the age of 65.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Gladys Russell; siblings, Howard Russell, Barbara Missroom, and James Russell.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Thea Russell of LaFayette; son, R. Wayne Russell and wife, Mona P. Russell of Dalton; sister, Gail Barber; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at LaFayette Cemetery with Pastor Patrick Cooper and Charles Thompson officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1p.m. to 4p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tapestry Hospice 100 Battlefield Parkway, Ringgold, GA 30736 or to the Veterans Administration.
