WARMERDAM, Nathalie Simone - Our beautiful and caring daughter, mother and friend, was wrenched from our lives suddenly on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 leaving a big hole in our hearts and in the community. Her passion was nursing and caring for people, which she did as a home care nurse, and previously working at the Hospice Renfrew. She was also known in the community through volunteering at the Eganville library and COPKA.

She was raised in Renfrew county and returned to raise her children here.

Left behind are her loving parents Frank Hopkins (husband of Jeanne) and Maz Tracey (wife of Mark), her children Adrian and Valerie, their father Frank Warmerdam, her partner Barry, her brother Josh Hopkins and his mother Dale, and a plethora of extended family and friends.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at the MALCOLM, DEAVITT & BINHAMMER FUNERAL HOME , 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration in honour of Nathalie's life will be held at The Petawawa Golf Club, 3 Festubert Blvd, Petawawa on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a time of sharing and toasting memories. In lieu of flowers Nathalie would have liked donations to the OSPCA, the Women's Sexual Assault Centre, or to a fund to help her children Adrian and Valerie.

News Article:
Nathalie Warmerdam's body was found by Ontario Provincial Police on Highway 512, also known as Foymount Road, which runs through the communities of Foymount, Cormac and Lake Clear, on Tuesday morning.

The 48-year-old was once in a relationship with the suspect, 57-year-old Basil Borutski, her friends said, though when it occurred and ended were unclear.

Warmerdam volunteered with a community organization called Co-operative Policing: Killaloe Area, which aims to make "positive changes" in policing at the Killaloe OPP detachment, according to its website.

The group's president, Genevieve Way, told CBC News on Tuesday that the relationship between Warmerdam and Borutski soured, and she went to police for protection.

"Nathalie certainly took all the steps she could to protect herself against Basil, in terms of going to the police and taking care of herself and getting away from him and saying no to him and all of that," Way said.

"Nathalie stood up for what she believed in. She stood up for a healthy relationship and she said no to the bully in her life. She kicked him out."

Way described Warmerdam as a dedicated, "brilliant" problem solver, and a good mother to her two children.

"To stand up in a small community and say that's something's wrong with policing takes a lot of courage, and Nathalie had that courage, and she had that integrity. She cared about her community so much," Way said.

"She stood up for what was good and right in her world, and we've lost an amazing woman today."

Basil Borutski, sentenced to life in prison for murdering three of his former partners in a shocking one-day spree of violence in Renfrew County in 2015, will die behind bars.

In a packed Pembroke, Ont., courtroom Wednesday, Borutski learned he'll have to wait in prison for nearly 70 years before he'll be allowed to apply for parole.

By then, he'd be about 128 years old.

"From time to time, a crime is so deplorable, so devoid of mercy, so cold-blooded, that denunciation, retribution and giving a sense of justice to the many victims and the community at large becomes the paramount and virtually singular consideration," Ontario Superior Court Justice Robert Maranger said Wednesday.

"This is one such case."
