Businessman and Philanthropist of San Francisco, California. Starting in 1929 , he was the president of the Zellerbach Paper Company, the firm founded by his grandfather, which he joined in 1917. He was also the vice-president and from 1956 to 1969 the executive vice-president of the Crown Zellerbach Corporation. He is especially remembered in San Francisco as a civic leader and patron of the arts, for over 25 years the chairman of the city's Arts Commission. He died aboard the cruise ship Mariposa while docked in Honolulu, Hawaii.
