Mrs. Gerken Dies In Nursing Home
Mrs. Catherine Christina Gerken, 85, formerly of St, Louis died, of infirmities at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Castle Haven Convalescent Center where she had resided for 17 months. Mrs. Gerken operated millinery in St, Louis for more than 50 years.
She was the mother of George L. Gerken, Smelting Works Road, who operates Gerken and Sons Wholesale Foods, 1104 North Illinois Street. Mrs. Gerken was born in Syracuse, Mo., July 28, 1880 and her parents were the late Christian and Mary Berkenbile, nee Green. She married John J. Gerken at Sedalia, Mo., August 6, 1900. Mr. Gerken, a tool and die maker died December 4, 1941.
Besides her son George, she is survived by another son Glenn P. Gerken, St. Louis; a daughter Mrs. Grace Cantwell, Falls Church, Va.; two brothers Andrew Berkenbile, Oklahoma City, and Daniel Berkenbile, Ironton, Mo.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, 7456 Manchester Avenue, Maplewood, Mo. after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
