British Businessman, Philanthropist, and Liberal Politician, 1st Baron Armitstead. Member of Parliament (1868 to 1873 and 1880 to 1885) for Dundee, Scotland. In 1843 he established the George Armitstead & Co shipping line and jute business at Dundee, Scotland. Other offices held include Justice of the Peace (JP) and of Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Forfarshire and Dundee. He was also invested as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
