Quinton Jones was born-in Salem in 1903 where he grew up with two siblings GorgeWilliam jones and Mary wells Thayer Jones Quinton received his early education in the Salem public schools and then entered Harvard College with the class of 17826 major in the tradition of fine arts he received his diploma cum laude he returned to Salem where he resided the rest of his life his ancestral home on the broad street when his father died just a few short months of his graduation he was left with the care of his invalid mother for his profession initially he was drawn to three dimensions of sculpture and to father these skills he enrolled as a day student in the school of the Masamune of fine arts Boston here he studied elements of sculpture stone carving clay portraiture and plaster casting in Salem he modeled portrait bust of the children from the Salem carpenter street orphanage this revealed deep-seated respect for the fragility and special vales of childhood Quinton was a voracious reader from the collected generation of books magazine and newspapers witch he found in the house from these men resources he incorporated much material into his work i pant wahat i think he sed eschewing the typical and popular subject matter of landscape and still life his more then 360 canves incude a more privet spiritaul world. he was a deeply religious and by nature a shy and introspective gentleman who gradually turned his back on society choosing to live his own life in relive seclusions he kept his art from the public during much of his life upon his death his family came into the passion of his case Cornelia joseph Gephart and her husband take they found not only numerous parenting but the Quinton never sold his art of excited it outside the family but Connie and dale have made it their mission to bring his works to the public Quntion Oliver jones died June 4 1999 at age95
