MEMORIAL AWARD ESTABLISHED
Rosary for Louis C. Finn Wednesday Night
Rosary for Louis C. Finn, 40, Pacific High School machine shop teacher and cross country coach, who died Sunday evening from injuries received in a track meet accident, will be recited at 8:15 Wednesday night at Grove Colonial Mortuary.
Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Montecito Memorial Park.
Finn was accidentally struck in the head Friday, by a tossed steel shot as Pacific prepared to engage Redlands High School in a track meet. He never regained consciousness.
Active in his field and in community activity, Finn belonged to the following organizations: Machinists Local; American Federation of Teachers; National Vocational Assn.; Bowling League; California Industrial Arts Assn.; and Lambda Chi fraternity.
He was an officer of the California Track Coaches Assn., and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. navy in the Atlantic and Pacific areas.
CUM LAUDE GRADUATE
Finn graduated cum laude from the University of California in 1948, coming to San Bernardino the same year. He was a native of California.
Survivors include the widow, Janet; a son, John, and three daughters, Jan Theresa, Debra and Patricia, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Lucille Stelle, Lynwood; his father, Louis I. Finn, Compton; two brothers, Frank, San Diego, and John W., Pine Valley; and two sisters, Mrs. John Lucas, Compton, and Mrs. W. F. Ussery, San Leandro.
A perpetual Louis C. Finn Memorial Sportsmanship award has been set up at Pacific High School "to further the interest of cross country track members through attitude, sportsmanship and desire." Memorial contributions may be sent to Pacific, in care of principal Dr. Kenneth P. Bailey.
