Arlouine Jeanette Trent, passed away on August 30th, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, just twelve days following her 99th birthday. Decades ago, Arlouine made arrangements for her remains to be donated to the University of Iowa’s Deeded Body Program. Her wish was that in death, she could help those who were still living. Sadly, due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the university could not accept the donation of her remains, and there will be a cremation burial. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials in honor of Arlouine may be sent to the Eldon United Methodist Church at 611 E Elm Street Eldon, Iowa 52554.

Arlouine was born on August 18th, 1921 in Eldon, Iowa to Sylvia L. (Carson) Weaver and Ralph E. Weaver. She graduated from Eldon High School in May of 1938, and afterward attended classes at Iowa Success Business School in Ottumwa. She married John A Trent on February 16th, 1946 and they resided in Eldon.

After working for several years as a bookkeeper, Arlouine set her sights on a career change by obtaining her license in Nursing Home Administration. She then worked as Administrator at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield for a number of years, before retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong member of the Eldon United Methodist Church, where she regularly played the organ, and she was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In retirement, Arlouine volunteered at the Ottumwa Regional Hospital, and her knitting skills produced an array of amazingly intricate Barbie clothes, along with accessories to match, much to the delight of her great-nieces.

Arlouine was preceded in death by her fiancé, Vic Saltzgaver, who died in North Africa while training for battle in World War 2, her husband John, her parents, and sister, Doris Jean Hughes.

Surviving are her niece, Jeane Hughes, and nephew Michael (Suann) Hughes; two great-nieces: Jaime (Joe) Norton, and Kate Hughes Zerwick; a great-nephew, Mark (Mandy) Woodburn, a great-great-niece, Annie Zerwick, and her cat, Sweetie, who showed up at her apartment one day, and needed a home.
