John Richard Barger, 90, of Anderson, passed away on Dec. 10, 2020, at Community Hospital Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nellie Barger.
John was born April 25, 1930, in Anderson, and happily married Betty Ruth Fisher Barger on her birthday, Aug. 5, 1956, at Bethany Christian Church in Anderson. Devoted to each other over 60 years they raised three children, Brent Barger, Valerie Barger, and Lorelei Barger Stibbard (Taylor). He also has three grandchildren, Allen McCoy (Alexandria Emhoff) of Anderson, Lori Katz of Carmel, and Lisa (Don) Richards of Zionsville; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Katz-age 16, Bentley Duncan McCoy-age 3, and Ella Richards-age 2.
John graduated from Anderson High School in 1949 then honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. Upon discharge, John returned to Anderson and enjoyed a rewarding 40+ year career as a design engineer with General Motors/Guide Lamp. Following his retirement, he continued his journey driving luxury motor coach tours throughout the U.S. until 2005.
He was active in many organizations such as the Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge 77, Scottish Rite, Madison County Shrine Club, also a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star (OES) Anderson Chapter 154, also a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson.
John devoted much of his free time enjoying his hobbies such as bowling on several leagues at Coopers of Anderson.
Private graveside services at Maplewood Cemetery have taken place.
