WWII Veteran
LEO F. JENCKS SR., 85, of Rock Hill Road, a retired carpenter, died yesterday at home.
He was the husband of Blanche M. (Gendron) Jencks, to whom he had been married for 64 years. Born in Warwick, a son of the late Fred and Alfreda (Wilcox) Jencks, he had been a Coventry resident since 1951.
Mr. Jencks was employed as a carpenter at Quonset Point Naval Air Station from 1945 to 1974. He was a Marine Corps corporal, serving in World War II.
He was a life member of the Little Rhody Beagle Club.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Sandra L. Crisp of Thornton, N.H.; four sons, Leo F. Jencks Jr. of Albondale, Fla., Douglas W. Jencks of Caribou, Maine, Gregory P. Jencks of Campton, N.H., and Chaplain Jeffrey A. Jencks, rector of St. John Episcopal Church, Cumberland; and 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Wilcox, and Anna, Sam, Melvin and William Jencks.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. John Episcopal Church, 1509 Mendon Rd., Route 122, Cumberland. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
