Suzanne R. Hagemeier, 81, of Harlingen, Texas was called to be with our Lord on the morning of February 14, 2021. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com

She was born on January 11, 1940 in Mason City, Iowa to Ted and Helen Thornblade. Suzanne was a loving daughter, sister, wife, friend, and teacher!

Suzanne spent most of her life in the state of Iowa. She was born in Mason City, Iowa and graduated from Mason City High School. She continued her education at North Iowa Area Community College and earned her A.A. Degree and then attended Upper Iowa University receiving her B.A. Degree in Education. She started teaching in Geneva, Iowa for two years and then moved to Clear Lake, Iowa where she taught for three years.

Suzanne moved to Postville, Iowa where she met the love of her life Arthur Hagemeier. They married and spent five years in Postville.

Suzanne and her husband Arthur moved to Burlington, Iowa where she lived, worked, and taught third grade for 28 years. Suzanne retired from the Burlington School District in 2001 after teaching for 38 years.

She spent the next 10 years of her life traveling and visiting many places on her bucket list.

She moved to Harlingen, Texas in 2011 to live in the Rio Grande Valley. She enjoyed Texas and she made many new friends.

She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Suzanne was a member of the Rainbow Girls, Red Hat Ladies and the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, father, Theodore R. Thornblade, and mother, Helen L. Thornblade; husband, Arthur Hagemeier; brothers, Thomas J. (Arlene) Thornblade and Teddy R. Thornblade; sister, Jane A. Alvarez. Suzanne leaves behind to cherish her memory her sisters, Mary Jo (Jerry) Nelson, Nancy (Kurt) Johnson, Sally (Graydon) Lau, Barbara (Tom) Rasmussen; and brothers, Ronald R. (Betty) Thornblade and Timothy Thornblade, as well as many nephews and nieces from her large family.

Arthur N. Hagemeier, 76, of Kingston, Iowa died at 2:53 AM Friday, November 1, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born April 16, 1937, near Waukon, Iowa in Makee Township in Allamakee County, Iowa, he was the son of Paul and Esther Christensen Hagemeier.

On March 15, 1997, he married Hillis Rutter in Kingston, Iowa. He was educated in Allamakee County rural schools and graduated from Postville Community High School in 1956.

Arthur farmed with his father in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties for a number of years. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1959 serving in Panama and the 775th Aerial Supply Unit in Decorah, Iowa.

Arthur and his father quit farming in 1969 and Arthur went to Area One Vocational-Technical College which is now Northeast Iowa Community College and received an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Accounting. Upon graduation from college, he worked for the Iowa Department of Revenue for 31 1/12 years, retiring in 2002.

He attended Bethany Lutheran Church. He was member of American Legion Post 243 of Mediapolis.

Survivors include his wife, Hillis Rutter; two brothers, David (Debbie) Hagemeier of Sioux City, SD, and Edward Hagemeier of Clinton, IA; several nieces and nephews; (and his former wife, Suzanne R. (Thornblade) Hagemeier of Texas).

He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews.

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, November 4, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Hagemeier will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Biedermann officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following service. Cremation will be entrusted to Thielen Crematory following the funeral service.
