Patty Rogers was born in Des Moines, IA on September 12, 1946 with an incredible spirit, one-of-a-kind smile, and remarkable, sparkling green eyes. She left this world suddenly in the loving arms of her husband and surrounded by her children on March 15, 2021.

In childhood Patty, the oldest of three, was a diligent and hardworking caretaker to her younger siblings. At the tender age of nine she took on the responsibilities at home while her mother worked fulltime after the untimely loss of her father. After graduating high school, Patty's hard work and fortitude pushed her to excel in academics, leading to her graduation from AIB and to her becoming an accomplished human resource professional.

It was at work in 1971 that Patty met David Rogers. He walked into her office and for him, it was love at first sight. David asked her on a date three separate times before she finally agreed to it. That life-changing first date, a lunch at Noah's Ark, led to a February 5, 1972 wedding. Patty became David's best friend, loyal supporter, and confidant that allowed him to build dreams as they successfully navigated life together.

After five years of adventures as a couple, in 1977, Patty became a mother for the first time to Warren, who was joined by Patrick, Jordan, and Beth. This role, motherhood, was Patty's crowning achievement. She gave her life to her children until her last breath, never leaving her children or grandchildren to question her love, devotion, and delight in them. She settled them into a home she remodeled in Mt. Pleasant, IA until David joined the Iowa National Guard in 1987. Patty once again setup a home then in Ankeny, IA. A home that she remodeled, redecorated, and its doors were opened regularly to those that did not have the same love and care in their own lives. This is who she was, a giver. Patty never knew a stranger. She would ask people about themselves and listen to their stories with an ability to recite details as though she had known them her whole life. It was not just humans who benefited from Patty's love, various animals were fortunate enough to become a part of Patty's family. She once captured the heart of a robin that was known to sit on her hand and come by for daily visits to the family's back patio for years to come.

Patty's fierce love for her family or anyone that was blessed enough to be loved by her can never be replicated. She talked with her children and grandchildren daily and there was no achievement too small for celebration followed by a "oh honey, we're just so proud of you." She was just as comfortable lounging with family at the house as she was donning the perfect outfit, accessories, or hair style and she always had a stunning shade of polish on her nails. Patty was the epitome of class and beauty. She loved to give to others often loading her children up with toiletries, treasures (wanted or unwanted) and waving from the door each time they pulled away.

Patty loved family gatherings, especially during the holidays. She loved Christmas more than almost anyone and never met a Santa Claus decoration that she could not find the perfect place for. She couldn't part with a single sentimental thing as she cherished the memories that they brought to her. She loved to be surrounded by the collection of precious items that represented lifetimes of memories from family and friends.

It was truly the simple things that meant the most to Patty. She was humble, loving and content to do just about anything with David, her children, grandchildren, and close friends. Her absence will be felt forevermore by her devoted husband, David; her children, Warren and Maya Rogers, Patrick and Kristen Rogers, Jordan and Katie Rogers, Beth and Marc Choate; her grandchildren; Halle, Emma, and Luci Choate, Peter and Blake Rogers; and numerous friends who she treasured as family.

The family welcomes you to join in celebration of her life from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 22 at the Veterans Reception Center at 910 Main St., Van Meter, IA 50261. A brief prayer and remarks from the family will occur at 1 p.m.
