Marvin Douglas Ackland
March 30, 1939 – April 21, 2021

Marvin D. Ackland, 82, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House with family at his bedside.
The son of Eugene and Edna (Faxon) Ackland, he was born in Albany, on Goldfish Farm Road. He married Joan (Stanley) on September 30th 1960 in Stevenson, Washington.
Marvin attended Albany Union High School. After his marriage to Joan they moved from Colorado to Florida and then to Alaska. While in Alaska he managed Sunshine Bakery. The couple and their children moved back to Oregon where they started in the furniture and mattress business. In 1979 they opened their own business The Sleep Center. They retired from the business in 2001 and it continues today.
In his younger years Marvin enjoyed fishing and hunting with family. He loved his horses and trail riding with friends and family. As he got older he took up photography and an interest in rocks and jewelry making.
After retirement Marvin and Joan were snow birds. They spent part of their time in Quartzsite, AZ and part in Oregon. They loved spending time in AZ with their many close friends and exploring the dessert in their 4x4 jeep. But most of all he enjoyed being with his family at any family occasion that he could attend.
Marvin was active in his church whether they were in AZ or OR, and especially loved working with the youth.
His quick smile and teasing nature will be greatly missed.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Jim (Patch), Doug and his wife Debbie, David, Cathy Ohling and her husband Rick, Candy Hulse and her husband Tim, Cathy Orcutt and her husband Jeff; brother Earl, sister, Bev Scott; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded by infant sister, Nancy Ann.
The family would like to thank Evergreen Hospice for their kind care that he received both at his home and during the last day and a half that he spent at Hospice house.
Services will be held on June 5 at 11:00am at Riverside Baptist Church in Albany with a reception to follow at the church.
