Jerry Lee Brackney, 78, of Flint formerly of Attica, died Wednesday April 28, 2021. He was born November 12, 1942 in Detroit to parents George and Kathleen (Ellis) Brackney. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force. He married Rita J. Tate on June 20, 1963 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. Brackney lovingly served his Savior and world through his life's work as executive director at Michigan Christian Youth Camp in Attica for 33 years. From 2004-2009, he served as family life minister for Lapeer Church of Christ and served as an elder for fifteen years. Jerry and Rita were involved with teaching parenting and Marriage Encounter classes for many years. He always enjoyed involvement in community projects, specifically the Kiwanis Club, where he was a very active member, Past President and Past Board of Directors member. Jerry served the Metropolitan Detroit Youth Chorus as Chairman and member of the Board of Trustees for nine fun years.
He is survived by his wife: Rita, children: David (Alisa) Brackney of Flint, Mark (Christine) Brackney of TN, Philip (April) Brackney of Shelby Twp., fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as siblings: William (Sandra) Brackney of Riverview and Nancy Slade of Coldwater. Jerry was preceded in death by his young son: John and his afore mentioned parents.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm Monday May 3, 2021, concluded by Jerry's celebration of life ceremony at 4:00pm, officiated by Evangilist Mark Frost all at Rochester Church of Christ, 250 W Avon Rd., Rochester Hills 48307.
