Enlisted, October 14, 1913, in Troop G, 1st Cavalry, NYNG, at the Madison Avenue Armory, New York City. Troop G was reorganized into Troop D, Squadron A Cavalry. Squadron A was called for service on the Mexican border and mustered in June 30, 1916.

The Squadron was assigned to Camp McAllen, Texas, as part of the 6th NY Division ( later to be the 27th Division ). He returned to Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY, and discharged, September 29, 1916, for dependent wife and child.

NOK 1916, Mrs. John ( Margaret ) F. Adams, Babylon, NY

World War 1, appointed 1st lieutenant, Infantry, from the 2nd OTC class at Plattsburg Barracks, NY. He transferred to the Air Service in England. Returning to the States, he was discharged January 8, 1919.
