Residence Spartansburg; 22 years old; brother of Colonel Benjamin Thomas Brockman. Enlisted for the duration of the war on 8/31/1861 at Spartansburg Court House by his brother, he was commissioned into Captain B. T. Brockman's Company, 13th Infantry South Carolina Volunteers as 1st Lieutenant. This company subsequently became Company B.
Promoted 6/19/1862 to Captain.
Mortally Wounded In Action 5/12/1864 in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, as was his brother, who died 6/8/1864 in Richmond.
The 13th Infantry Regiment was organized in July, 1861, at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina. Many of the men were recruited in Greenville, Newberry, Abbeville, and Spartanburg counties.
The unit sustained 63 casualties at The Wilderness, 86 casualties at Spotsylvania.
