Vernon B. Hudkins


Vernon Bryon Hudkins, 62, of 769 N. State St. died at 3:15 a.m. today at home. He was ill six months. A Marion resident 11 years, he came he from Weston, W. Va. He was a guard at the Pollack Steel Co. plant.


Born Feb. 23, 1896 in Weston he was the son of Thomas Lee Hudkins and Susan Virginia Smith Hudkins of Philippi, W. Va.


Among the survivors are five sons, Vernon B. Hudkins, Jr. of 342 Owens St., William W. Hudkins of Grantham, Pa., John P. Hudkins of 772 Central Dr. in Marion, Grover J. Hudkins of Columbus and Joseph E. Hudkins of 769 N. State St. in Marion; four daughters, Mrs. Imogene Jones of 508 Park Blvd. in Marion, Mrs. Ruth Yoho of Woodlands, W. V, Mrs. Edna Lee Potts of 769 N. State St. here and Mrs. Irene Jones of Twin Oaks Trailer Park; 19 grandchildren; three brothers, Grover W. Hudkins, of Weston, Ernest M. Hudkins of Parsons, Kan., and Stark H. Hudkins of Midland, Tex., and six sisters, Mrs. Garnet Burner of Philippi, Mrs. Iva Snyder of Horner, W. Va., Mrs. Flora McNemar of Bridgeport, Conn., and Mrs. Nora Lee Clark, Mrs. Olga Stout and Miss Ova M. Hudkins of Weston. A son and three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.


Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Hughes-Hyll Mortuary on Mt. Vernon Ave. The Rev. J.B. Holloway and the Rev. Melvin Truex will officiate. The body will be sent to the Floyd Funeral Home at Weston for burial in Broad Run Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hudkins residence after 7:30 p.m. tonight until Wednesday noon.

Vernon lost his right arm at the elbow in a sawmill accident prior to 27 Apr 1942 (WWII Draft Registration).
