The 117th MG Battalion shipped out for Europe, October 6, 1918, from New York Harbor, aboard the USS Lancashire. on arriving in France, he was transferred to Campany A, 106th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.

He returned to the States with the 106th MG Battalion, departing Brest France, March 5, 1919, aboard the USS Missouri. The battalion docked at Hoboken, NJ, March 18, 1919.

He marched in the great "Welcome Home Parade" for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 25, 1919.

He was discharged from the service, April 5, 1919.
