OBITUARY, EXCERPTS: "George H. Franklin musician and teacher, entered into rest at his residence in Cobleskill November 30 following a prolonged illness which had confined him to his bed for the past seven months. He was born at East Springfield, N. Y., on December 4, 1851, the son of Daniel and Ann Kelly Franklin. He was educated at East Springfield Academy, of which his father was one of the founders. Having shown early in life marked musical ability, he began the study of the violin, and upon the completion of his course in the Academy he entered the Boston Conservatory for further study of his chosen instrument. His training also included courses in orchestration and in harmony. During this period he came to know personally Edwin Booth, Lawrence Barrett, John McCullough, the two Salvinis and other great Shakesperean actors. Later he was a member of the well known Stubblebine's orchestra. He was a genuine lover of literature as well as music, but most of all he cherished his home and his friends. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ada Young Franklin. He leaves one brother, Benjamin Franklin of East Springfield and two nieces, Mrs. Lee Branch of Mohawk, N.Y., and Miss Jessie Franklin of East Springfield, N. Y. The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at his late home by Dr. W. G. Boomhower of Jersey City, formerly a local pastor, assisted by Rev. M. M. Rector, pastor of the Baptist Church here. Burial was made in the Cobleskill Rural cemetery." THE COBLESKILL [N.Y.] INDEX, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 05, 1929.
NOTE: His wife Ada Young Franklin, died 08/10/1943 in Chittenango N.Y. at the home of her niece, Mrs. George Ingraham. Her funeral service was held in Cobleskill at the Zion Lutheran Church. She was born July 21, 1866 in Chittenango, the daughter of George and Sarah Ann (Singleton) Donahue.
