Carl E. (Eugene) Anders, 61, left this earthly life on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at his home surrounded by family and friends. For 38 years, he was the beloved husband of Connie Day Anders. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Eunice Reid Anders, of Keavy; his brother, Dean Anders, of Chicago, Ill.; his special Aunt Florence Wilson of Corbin, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Johnny and Doris Martin Day of Keavy.He leaves behind his son, Charles (Robbie) Anders and wife Jamie, of Keavy; daughters Carla Anders and her special friend Adrian Grillon and his son C.J., of Corbin, and Chelsea Anders, of Keavy; granddaughter Sarah Anders, of Keavy; a sister Ann Evans and husband Jerry, of Tazewell, Tenn.; a brother Dr. Charles Anders and wife Karen, of Corbin. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Having graduated from Lily High School in 1964, Anders served in the U.S. Army, spending one year in Vietnam. After he returned home, he began working for Whayne Supply. He was a dedicated, responsible, hard-working employee for 32 years.In October 1971, Carl became very active in the Keavy Fire Department As the longest serving active member of the fire department he served as president, secretary, treasurer, and grant writer of the Fire Department Board. He became assistant chief of the Keavy Fire Department. According to his fellow firefighters, he was the "glue" that held the department together. To honor the life and works of Anders, the Kentucky Fire Fighters Association inducted him into the Southeastern KY Fire Fighters Association Hall of Fame in June 1977. Also, he was presented with the "Never Say Quit" Award on Nov. 6, 1999.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Locust Grove Christian Church with Bro. Rob Hale and Chaplain Stewart Dawson officiating. Leaving from the Hart Funeral Home at 9 a.m. Wednesday, there will be a Fire Fighters Procession to the Locust Grove Christian Church with fire fighters, family, and friends.Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery with the Keavy D.A.V. Chapter 158 and London Chapter 66 presenting military honors and the Southeastern KY Fire Fighters Association presenting firemen honors.Pallbearers will be the Keavy Fire Dept. Honorary pallbearers will be the Locust Grove Christian Church Family, as well as special friends and relatives: Ronnie Bales, Raleigh Anders, Skip Dodd, Harold Bales, Dennis Eaton, Harvey Ray, Dr. Charles Anders, Eddie Day, Rondal Cassidy, Ford Whitaker, William Dean, Jeff Messer, and Jerry Evans.
