During World War I he was a seaman 1st class on the USS Aloha, which was the flagship of Rear Admiral Cameron M. Winslow.
Following the war he attended New York University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College and received his MD in 1924.
He married Margaret Weaver Keck on May 29, 1918 in New York City and they had three children; William Tod, 4th, Caroline Seymour and Walter K.
His wife and children are buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton, NY so he may be as well.
