Actress. Interpreter of great expressiveness, she linked her name above all to the golden period of television dramas of the sixties, with works such as "La Pisana", "Mastro Don Gesualdo", "Luisa Sanfelice" and "Il Segreto di Luca". She had her first amateur experiences in Parma with the theater group "Gioventù studentesca" and then with the amateur dramatics "Gli amici della Studentessa", with which she staged Luigi Pirandello's "Il Piacere dell'Onestà". With this comedy she participated in a national competition, in Pesaro, where she was awarded as best leading actress and where she was noticed by the director Anton Giulio Bragaglia, present in the jury and who engaged her in her company. Her debut as a professional actress took place in 1946, with "Anna Christie" by Eugene O'Neill, directed by Bragaglia himself. After only four years she left the theatrical scenes to return to her hometown and write poetry. In 1954 she returned to the theater with "Emma", by Federico Zardi and in 1957 with "Il servitore di due padroni", together with Marcello Moretti, directed by Giorgio Strehler. With this company he brought comedy to France, Germany and the Middle East. Lydia Alfonsi in 1958 thanks to her skills as a dramatic actress, she has interpreted many roles in the classical theater, such as Medea, Elettra, Elena, Phaedra. She also linked her name to important Italian theaters, such as the Piccolo Teatro of Milan and the Stabile of Genoa. In 1970 she received recognition as the best Italian television actress from the French critics. She awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Italian Republic by President Sandro Pertini. She was the godmother of the Pisa National Literary Prize for over 25 years. In 1989 she was part of the cast of the two-part television miniseries "Una lepre con una faccia da bambina", broadcast by Rai. In 1997 she took part in the film "La vita è bella" by Roberto Benigni in the role of the publisher Guicciardini, her last interpretation of her.
