May have been born in Storen, according to Bible records. Thomas came to America as a young man, emigrating to Sacred Heart in 1885 and arriving in Willow City, ND about 1887. He was section boss for the Great Northern R.R. and later worked as a skilled carpenter. They lived in Willow City until the early 1900s when they moved to Wellington Township and started to farm. They later purchased the Swensgaard farm in Wellington Township after the death of Julia's parents. Thomas was a skilled carpenter. He built Norwegian churches in Willow City and Barton, as well as many homes. They were members of the First Lutheran Church in Willow City, ND. They had four children. He had a step-brother, Orne.
