Originally from Lewiston, Maine John was one of nine children born to the late Edward A. Pollard and Viola May Therrien (Taylor).
John's career of service to his country and community began with the US Navy and continued with his work for the as a Rhode Island Deputy State Marshal, at the RI Dept. of Corrections and as a Child protective Investigator with the DCYF.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and longstanding member of the Freemasonry and Shriners.
He leaves behind his children, Mary-Ann Ricci and her husband, Louis Ricci III, Melissa Morgan, Nelson Godfrey and his wife Linda, Gregory Godfrey and his wife Selina. John generously shared his time and affection with his seven grandchildren; Veronica (Ricci) Mansour, Louis J. Ricci, Candace Bourgeois and her husband Marcus Thomas, Michele Bourgeois and her husband Eladio Tavarez, Christina Godfrey, Erin and Amelia Godfrey, and five great grandchildren; David, Jenna, Tayla, Jaden, and Paige.
He is the brother of Shirley Hardy and Betty Swanson and brother to the late, Isabelle Quinnell, Theresa Dill, Louise Pratt, Richard Pollard, Cora Gagnon and June Bolduc.

A Memorial Service and a celebration of John's life was held on Friday November 4th, 2016 in The Butterfield Chapel Cranston.
