Barbara Louis Keller Becker, age 87, died at home on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Born on November 21, 1923 in Findlay, Ohio, the daughter of Louis Conrad Keller and Margaret Belle (Holcombe) Keller, she grew up in Elyria, Oberlin, and Findlay, graduating as valedictorian from Findlay High School in 1941. She studied languages at Oberlin College (Class of '45) and met her husband, Jack Becker, (Class of '47), a V-12 Marine stationed there. After graduation, she worked for Jones, Day in Cleveland until her marriage on December 27, 1947. They raised their family in Ann Arbor, even after their divorce in 1963. She earned her graduate degree in library science at the University of Michigan (1948). A member of the Special Libraries Association, especially the pharmaceutical division, she worked for the U-M Law Library, for the Michigan Municipal League, and for Parke-Davis/Warner Lambert (now Pfizer). A member of the Friends of the Ann Arbor Public Library for many years, she was instrumental in the establishment of the Northfield Twp. public library. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, serving on the Finance Committee, the History Committee, and the Altar Guild. She enjoyed people, knitting (Swanky Knitters), bridge, gardening, and travel. She belonged to Alpha Zeta and Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Molly K. and James E. Cline of Potomac, MD,; by her children, daughter Nancy B. Johnson, Ph.D., of Ann Arbor, daughter and son-in-law, Anne E. and Fred Warneke of St. Paul, MN and son, John Becker of Whitmore Lake. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joshua, Noel, Andrew, Tristan, Kerwin, Edmund, Marcia, and J. Trent; and by 16 great-grandchildren; numerous Becker, Cline and Burnett nieces, nephews and cousins, including her goddaughter, Katharine; and by her former sister-in-law, Irene Becker, Tucson, AZ. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, June 14, at 3:00 p.m. with disposition of ashes in the Memorial Garden, the Reverend Alan Gibson officiating. A Tuesday Tea will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oberlin College, to the University of Michigan School of Information, or to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
