John died quietly on 26 February 2023 after a nine-year battle with Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor cancer (PNeT). He was two days short of his 74th birthday, being born in St. Petersburg Florida on 1 March 1949. His parents were Col Harris Hildreth (1910-1956) and Nell Gay Pearson Hildreth (1916-2000)
He loved everything mechanical, was an excellent machinist, and could build or repair just about anything. He also built superb high-performance Harley Davidson motors for both racing and the street, and had a loyal customer base for his business 'Hildreth Performance'. His life-long love of riding motorcycles (both in the dirt and on the street) was highlighted when he raced professional motorcross in the 1970s and being part of a record-setting team at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the 1980s. He also loved surfing, hunting, camping, stock car racing, and scuba diving.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Terri McCurdy Hildreth; two children: Jason (Julina) of Post Falls, Idaho, and Laura (Neshawn) Roland of Winchester, Indiana; seven grandchildren: Collin (Acacia) and Cameron Hildreth of Idaho; Elsa, Sam and Gus Anderson, along with Eli and Theron Roland of Indiana; one great-grandson Jax of Idado; and sister Margret Hildreth of Florida. Extended family members include Randy Parker of Georgia and Beverly Nichols and family of Mississippi.
Per his wishes, there were no services held, and his ashes will be scattered on his beloved Gulf Coast at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to HH Family Hospice in Huntsville, Alabama.
Many thanks to the Clear View Cancer Institute in Huntsville, along with Madison Hospital, Madison Alabama, and HH Family Hospice for their loving dedication and expert care during his long illness.
