Our mother, Ione Bloch, peacefully passed to her eternal home in heaven on April 5, 2023. Ione was born June 13, 1928, the first child of Ben and Beatrice (Anderson) Kirt.

After living through the turmoil of The Great Depression and World War II, she graduated from Marinette High in June of 1946.
June was a busy month for Ione that year as she turned 18 and then married the love of her life, Donald Bloch, on June 23, 1946.

Over the next eleven years Don and Ione added seven children to their family. Because Don worked seven days a week, Ione was the main care giver doling out an abundance of discipline and love.
She was a wonderful cook making some of our favorite boiled dinner (not), potato salad and everyone's favorite butterhorns.

When the youngest child Gary, was starting first grade, Ione entered Marinette County Teachers' College graduating in 1965. She accepted a teaching position with the Coleman School district later moving to the Peshtigo School district.
During that time, she continued taking classes, including 2 summers living in the dorms in Oshkosh, WI. She earned her bachelor's degree from Oshkosh University in 1973.
After teaching for 25 years, she retired in 1990.
During her summers off from teaching and after retirement Don and Ione enjoyed traveling to such places at Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Israel, Egypt, Sweden, Russia and others.
She and Don enjoyed a competitive game of Scrabble but we were never told who held the record for the most wins.

Ione was a long-time member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peshtigo, WI where she at times taught Sunday School or Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Ladies Aid.
She was a volunteer at Bay Area Medical Center and a member of the Peshtigo Women's Club. She was involved in Harmony 4-H and assisted her girls in sewing, gardening and forestry projects.

Ione is survived by her seven children: Bonnie (Rick) Schrader of Rockford, Michigan; Kathy (Roger) Wallin of Marinette, WI; Sandy Barrette of Peshtigo, WI; Laurie (Jeff) Spangenberg of Neenah, WI; Patti Bloch of Green Bay, WI; Debbie (Steve) Katona of Marshfield, WI and Gary (Carol) Bloch of Luxemberg, WI.
her 23 grandchildren; 45 great- grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and 1 more on the way;
sister Virginia (Harold) Schlenvogt;
brother John Kirt;
and sister-in-law Caroline Bloch;
brothers-in-law: Wesley Schirmer and Eugene Bancroft.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don;
one grandson Matthew Spangenberg;
sister Jeanne (Wes) Schirmer;
brother Peter Kirt;
sister Mary Lou Bancroft;
and sister-in-law Lu (John) Kirt.

She was a teacher at heart all her life and taught her children the two most important lessons in life that is to have faith in Jesus and to love family. She was never happier than when family was together.

Death is not an end, but a new beginning! We look forward to seeing her again in heaven!

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Peshtigo, with the service to follow. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo.
