She was united in holy matrimony to Nathaniel McElroy on February 25, 1961. This union was blessed with four sons; Clarence, Kyle, Terrence, and Eric.
Early on, she attended Prairie State College and became a certified seamstress. Her love for sewing and cooking was only surpassed by her love of Christ, family, and friends. Emma was employed with Oak Forest Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and St. James Hospital until she retired in 1997.
Emma loved to bowl and as an avid bowler, she bowled in leagues for many years. Additionally, Emma and her family loved to travel together. On September 15, 2016, Emma was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband of 55 years, Nathaniel; her four sons: Clarence (Diane) McElroy of Park Forest, IL, Kyle (Rachelle) McElroy of Frankfort, IL, Terrence McElroy of Chicago, IL, and Eric McElroy of Matteson, IL; ten grandchildren: Nicole (Demetric) Love, Erica (Lawrence) Thomas, LaKeisha (Keith) Anderson, Terrence McElroy, Jameka McElroy, Pierre McElroy, Kyle McElroy II, T'Lia McClure, McKinley McElroy, and Jackson McElroy; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; six brothers: Will (Linia) of Harvey, IL, Freddie of Chicago Heights, IL, Albert (Fannie) of Matteson, IL, Jesse of University Park, IL, Richard (Patricia) of Richton Park, IL, and Larry (Doris) of University Park, IL; six sisters: Marie Menzie of Chicago Heights, IL, Essie Foster of Matteson, IL, Berda Kennedy of University Park, IL, Georgia (Michael) Kennedy of University Park, IL, Doris (Stafford) Jacques of Olympia Fields and Vernita Jefferson of Monroe, LA; brothers-in-law: Andrew McElroy of Markham, IL, Emmett McElroy of Matteson, IL, Charles (Catherine) McElroy of Chicago Heights, IL, and James Jones of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law: Unette (Curtis) Harbour of Simi Valley, CA; Her beloved niece, Joyce McElroy Williams of Hammond, IN; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wade Thomas; nephew, Edward Thomas, and niece, Verna Thomas.
