5 Mar 2008: Former Ashland resident Edith O. Atkins, 96, died March 5, 2008, in Poulsbo, WA. She was born in Ashland Nov. 17, 1911, to Ira P. and Caroline Barone Gerberich. Following high school graduation in 1929, she worked for Gilbert Furniture for seven years. In 1934, she married Gael E. Atkins of Ashland. They moved west, where he worked for U.S. Civil Aeronautics Administration in several states. She was a homemaker, grew large gardens and enjoyed crocheting rag rugs. She lived in Livingston, MT, from 1946-1997, then moved to Poulsbo. Mrs. Atkins is survived by daughters Donna Atkins of Gillette, WY, and Phyllis (Vince) DeMuth of Douglas, AL; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and sister Sylvia Siegmann of Indianapolis, IN. There were no services. At a later date, family will return to Livingston to scatter her ashes near those of her husband. [Ashland, OH, Gazette]
