Janice I. Gilmer, 84, of Gordon Court Apartments, passed away peacefully late Saturday evening at Samaritan Senior Living, in Watertown.
Janice was born December 23, 1938, in Ogdensburg, NY, daughter of Albert and Ida Ludwig Blackmer.
She graduated from Morristown Central High School in 1956.
She married Roger E. Gilmer on February 1, 1959, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg. Mr. Gilmer passed away on September 4, 1995.
After graduating from high school, she was employed by the late John Mahoney of Ogdensburg as a secretary and dental assistant. In September 1969, Janice went to work as a Health Aide for the Alexandria Bay Central School System, where she was employed until her retirement in 1988. She then worked for a time as office manager for Donald Cole at Bonnie Castle Stables, where her husband was manager and head trainer. In 1995, she started working for Uncle Sam Boat Tours, until she retired in
2016.
She enjoyed helping people, playing bingo, knitting, baking and enjoyed her time by The River. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son and wife of Massena, and a daughter, two granddaughters, and a grandson, Jordan.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly, and a son, Roger John.
