LaVern Emmanuel Swanson, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas.
LaVern was born in Salina, Kansas on October 25, 1939, the son of Oscar Emmanuel and Eva Constentina (Swenson) Swanson.
LaVern attended Lindsborg grade school and graduated from Lindsborg High School, Lindsborg, Kansas in 1957. He then attended U.S. Trade School in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated in 1958.
Through the years, Lavern worked for 81 farm supply as a diesel mechanic and for Winfield Country Club which he loved. LaVern enjoyed mechanics, fishing and spending time with his friends and family.
LaVern was united in marriage to Lometta C. Snyder on June 18, 1961 at Assembly of God Church, McPherson, Kansas. LaVern later married Jean Thurber on November 27, 2010 in Winfield, Kansas at the Central Baptist Church. This union brought five sons, Donald, Kyle, Keith, Jack and Roy; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends. LaVern was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Winfield.
He is survived by his children, Roger (Susan) Swanson of Burden, Kansas, Cheryl (Robert Jr.) Bryant of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Tamala (Kevin) Palmer of Clairemore, Oklahoma, James ( Rachel) Swanson of Winfield, Kansas, Ron Swanson of Jefferson City, Missouri and Anita Madina of Jefferson City, Missouri; brother, Clifford Swanson of Higginsville, Missouri; and grandchildren, Bobby, Tavita, Nathan, Sarah, Filicia, Isaac, Gabriel and Dallas.
LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lometta Swanson; and his sister; Magdalene, a grandson, Tyson Harrison and his second wife, Jean Swanson.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2023 at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Chapel in McPherson, Kansas.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2023 at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Chapel with Reverend Clifford Swanson officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.
