From Barb Martin: For Lena Maude Hirt and her son, Ralph who drowned together on June, 1943 I have just part of their obituary - the beginning of the newspaper article was missed when I copied it. Will try to get it again.

.....services were held on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Elk Rapids Methodist Church, with Rev. J.C. Mathews of East Jordan officiating. Burial was made in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Lena Maude LaValley was born February 15, 1892 at Acme and had lived her entire life in the surrounding community.
On October 12, 1912 she was united in marriage to Henry J. Hirt and to this union, five sons were born, four of whom survive; Alfred on Flint; Robert of the Armed Forces in India and Glenn and Donald at home; also her husband; five sisters and one brother, and a stepfather, Mr. Lewis Briggs of Flint.
Ralph Hirt was born February 25, 1918 at South Milton where he lived until the time of his marriage. He was a graduate of the Elk Rapids High School.
On December 7, 1937 he was united in marriage with Mary Lucille Morrison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Morrison. The wife survives, also his father and four brothers.
The profusion of flowres which filled three cars, spoke of the many friends the families had.
At one time Ralph was employed at the local A&P store, and he also was employed at the Co-Op's, which position he held at the time of his induction on April 2, 1943.
On Monday, the flag at (?) Park flew at half mast, and all business places closed during the hour of service.
The community joins in extending to the bereaved families theri sincere sympath in their great loss.
